The Plays
Heart
by Nóri Mátrai
An abandoned operating theatre in a country at war. A dining table stands in for an operating table, and a fan hums at a white icebox. A surgeon called back from retirement waits for his patient, with an assistant who turns out to be a shoemaker. The patient is late, a heart only keeps for a few hours, and the surgeon has very firm views about when the box may be opened. A tense, darkly funny two-hander about duty, ambition, and what one life is worth.
The Crush

Two shy “back office” colleagues, their crowded daily commute, and a tentative flirtation as she emerges from the pressure of family expectations: The Crush gives glimpses into the hearts of people barely noticed by those around them. Inspired by a real-life overheard sentence, this amusing short play is the debut work of Amsterdam-based writer Laura Durnford.
Chronos

Cassini reads tarot, crystal balls and star charts for a living, and keeps a far rarer talent very quiet. When her sister’s ex, Nathaniel, turns up after two years, three months and 23 days asking for a very particular kind of reading, she has every reason to say no. A darkly comic supernatural two-hander about the people we used to be, and whether we ever really stop being them.
