About the Play
Sam never thought he’d end up here. The country is divided, and his social media app is at the epicentre. His office is in lockdown, protesters are gathering outside, and everyone wants his ear. It’s three weeks before the election. Outside, the storm is brewing.
After a string of online posts leads to a violent riot, the Trust & Safety team have suspended the account of one of the running candidates. But did they cross a line?
Sam’s isolating himself. He defends his team against the backlash they’re receiving, but he can’t help feeling that this time is different. This is not a normal user; it’s the former Prime Minister, and the world of power behind him that’s determined to protect him. They’re furious, and they’re coming.
Forced by his shareholders to meet with the former Prime Minister’s team, Sam finds himself under pressure to reverse his decision, overrule his team, and make a deal. But the storm outside is creeping in, and the real victims of whatever is decided inside this room are ultimately the ones who’ll be silenced.
Redacted is a political drama about the influence of tech on freedom of speech, censorship, and power.
